Neon Tokyo, originally uploaded by Annelogue.

I’ve been moving around in a daze, slowly digesting all the impressions I’ve had in the last couple of weeks. I’ve been thinking a lot about my vacation in Japan. It’s been a while since I went to a place where I could not understand the written or spoken language at all. It really sparked my curiosity in ways that I had completely forgotten was possible. It is really weird not understanding signs in the cityscape. I think the Japanese characters have a beautiful shape, making me believe that every sign is saying something lovely. It reality it probably only says normal boring stuff like “Free Car Wash” or “Discount Store”. I would never know that, so to me it’s just signs of beauty, with no meaning beyond the aesthetic.
